Happy Friday!
July 4th is Saturday. The weather is going to be warm. You should be outside with a drink.
We mapped out the best rooftops, waterfront patios, and outdoor bars across DC, Arlington, and Maryland so you don't have to figure it out last minute.
A Few Highlights by Area
The Wharf (DC) The obvious call for July 4th: waterfront views, Potomac breezes, and fireworks access all in one spot. Whiskey Charlie on the rooftop has weekend happy hour 2-5 PM with $5 beers, $9 wines, and $10 cocktails. Mi Vida runs until 7 PM with $7 frozen margaritas and $7 Mexican beers on the patio. Get there early. The Wharf is going to be packed Saturday.
Georgetown Waterfront (DC) If you want the view without the Wharf crowds, Georgetown is your move. Sequoia has one of the largest outdoor decks on the Potomac, $6-8 beers, $8 wines, $9 cocktails Monday-Friday 3-6:30 PM. Nick's Riverside Grill is right on the water with $6 beers and $7 wines until 7 PM weekdays.
Clarendon (Arlington) Best rooftop scene in Northern Virginia. Don Tito runs daily 3-6 PM with $9 margaritas, $2 tacos, and $2 chips and salsa. The Liberty Tavern has a rooftop deck with $5-7 drinks Monday-Friday 4-7 PM. A short walk between both is a perfect early evening.
Old Town Alexandria Waterfront Potomac views with a more relaxed, neighborhood feel. Vola's Dockside Grill runs daily 3-6 PM right on the water with $5 drafts, $6 wines, and $7 cocktails. Easy to pair with a walk along the waterfront before or after.
National Harbor (Maryland) Cross the Woodrow Wilson Bridge for a different vibe entirely. The Walrus Oyster & Ale House has a 90-seat waterfront patio, $1.50 oysters, and $11 margaritas Monday-Friday 4-6 PM. The Capital Wheel lights up at night and the fireworks view from the Maryland side is underrated. See our full National Harbor guide for more.
A few practical notes for Saturday:
Show up early. Waterfront spots at The Wharf, Georgetown, and National Harbor will fill up hours before fireworks. Happy hour windows close before dark, get there for the deals, stay for the show.
Check if your spot requires a reservation. The Wharf especially, outdoor seating books up on holiday weekends.
