Happy Friday!

It's July in DC. The rooftop sounded great in April.

Here are five indoor happy hours worth leaving your air conditioning for; cool rooms, great drinks, and no sunscreen required.

5 Indoor Happy Hours for the Hottest Weeks of Summer

Flight Club DC (Downtown DC) Tech-enabled Social Darts in a sleek, climate-controlled space steps from the Convention Center. Monday-Friday 4-6 PM: $2 off all draft beer, liquor, and wine, specialty cocktails from $8, and pretzel bites with beer cheese for $7. Social Darts starts at $15/person for 90 minutes. The best answer to "what should we actually do tonight" for a group that doesn't want to stand outside sweating. 📍 641 New York Ave NW, DC

Daru (H Street NE, DC) One of the best cocktail bars in the country, full stop. Daily 5-6:30 PM with $8 wines and martinis alongside snacks under $10. The cocktail program draws from Indian botanicals and spirits in ways most DC bars don't attempt. Dark, intimate, and air conditioned to perfection. Get there before 5:30 or expect to wait. 📍 1451 H St NE, DC

The Green Zone (Adams Morgan, DC) One of DC's best cocktail bars and genuinely one of the coolest rooms in the city; dark, intimate, and drawing from Middle Eastern spirits and botanicals in ways that make every drink feel like a discovery. Tuesday-Saturday 5-8 PM and all day Sunday: $1.50 off drafts, $11 wine, and $12 cocktails. The three-hour evening window is one of the more generous in Adams Morgan. Pair with Jack Rose for a two-stop night on 18th Street without ever going back outside. 📍 2226 18th St NW, DC

Jack Rose Dining Saloon (Adams Morgan, DC) Over 2,700 whiskey expressions on library-style shelves in a dark, multi-level room that was built for lingering. Monday-Saturday 5-7:30 PM: $2 off beer and wine, $12 Whiskey Classics, and 50% off bar bites downstairs in the Saloon. Skip the rooftop on a hot night and go straight to the Saloon; better deals, better air conditioning, better whiskey conversation. 📍 2007 18th St NW, DC

The Whiskey Revolution Tasting Room (National Harbor, MD) Tucked inside the Gaylord National's massive 19-story glass atrium, itself one of the most dramatically air-conditioned spaces in the DMV, this dedicated whiskey tasting room offers 100+ expressions including rare and exclusive pours alongside whiskey-based cocktails. A genuinely unique happy hour experience and the coolest (literally) room on this list. 📍 201 Waterfront St, Oxon Hill
